Diploma in Special Education – Mental Retardation  

 

 

 

  • The aim of this course is to prepare the trainee teacher to screen, assess, educate and train persons with mental retardation in individual or group settings.
  • On completion of the course the trainee teacher is expected to perform the following functions: Screening and educational assessment of persons with mental retardation.
  • Apply principles from psychology to develop, implement and evaluate educational programmes for persons with mental retardation at pre-school, primary, secondary and pre-vocational levels.   In home-bound, school, hostel or any other setting offering special educational programmes.
  • Analyse and manage, under supervision from appropriate experts, behaviour problems in the classroom setting.
  • Inform the family regarding available services and promote integration of the person with mental retardation in the family and the community under guidance from concerned experts.
  • Initiate, under supervision from appropriate experts, prescribed therapy programmes in Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy.

 

 

  Essential qualifications of 10+2 or equivalent with 50% of aggregate marks obtained by the individual candidate.

  Rural Background (Persons should pass 10th class from rural area i.e. the place other than District Hqrs.  
  Proven proficiency in co-curricular activities duly supported by authentic certificates (Yoga, Physical Training, Sports, Music, Arts and Crafts, NCC/Scouts & Guides

Applications for admission will be screened and short-listed on the basis of 3 candidates per seat by a committee specially constituted for this purposes.   Merit lists based on the pre-interview scores as per the rules of the Institute will be prepared. Based on the quota of seats, candidates will be called for interview. Final merit list will be prepared based on the scores obtained by the candidates on the basis of academic qualifications, experience and performance in the interview. No TA & DA will be paid for attending the interview. Mere submission of the application form will not entail the candidate to be called for interview as the admission into the course is subject to selection. No correspondence in this regard by the candidate will be entertained.

 

 

 

This is a course of two academic years including internship. During this period the selected candidates cannot pursue any other course. Selected candidates’ should join the course by the stipulated date. At the time of joining the course, the selected candidate will have to produce (a) bond to the effect that the admitted candidate will not discontinue the course and (b) medical certificate-of fitness from a Civil Surgeon declaring the state of health.

 

 

 

Twenty Five candidates will be admitted to the course. Out of 25 seats, three seats are reserved for SC, two seats for ST candidates and one seat for persons with disability as per the Persons with Disability (Equal Opportunity Protection of Rights and Full Participation), Act 1995.

The prescribed application form and prospectus may be obtained from KPAMRC either in person or by post by sending self addressed envelope with sufficient stamps affixed on the envelope and a cash for Rs. 200/- payable to KPAMRC Bangalore.   

 

 

The curriculum for special education training will consist of predominantly practical exercises to develop necessary skills in education and training of persons with mental retardation.

 

 

Will be intimated at the appropriate time. Attendance above 80% is compulsory to be eligible for appearing in the final examination.

Outstation trainees will have to make their own arrangements for lodging and boarding during the period of training.
